This divide between the body-subject and the mental-subject is fascinating. It's not strictly relevant, but I'm reminded of Lacan's concept of the "mirror stage" in the development of the subject. The mirror stage is where a child looking in a mirror realises that their reflection is a reflection of them and not some other entity; this initial differentiation causes them to realise further that they are an independent subject. The mirror allows them to see themselves as an entity from a point of view outside of themselves.
