mk: New issue I think, spambots are following users and triggering emails, see igolfthailand who is following 28 users.

Do we not have a captcha and email confirmation in place?

I dropped the hammer on him. We have captcha, but not email verification. I want to do something different.

Invite only? Comment hubwheel before posting enabled? One-time donation? There's so many choices, I don't envy ya!

Totally onboard for testing / discussion though.

    Invite only?

We don't want Hubski to turn into an echo chamber.

    Comment hubwheel before posting enabled?

Easily circumventable, though I don't envy the idiot programming this part just for Hubski. May be the best solution, in part because it wastes the programmer's time for this particular instance of a website, and that's effort you don't want to put in.

    One-time donation?

Would deter bots and common users alike, though I like the idea. I, for example, would've stayed away from a website that requires money to partake in it. Even if I knew somehow that I'd've enjoyed it here, I wouldn't have had any money to donate back then.

Totally onboard for testing / discussion though.

Likewise.

I am positive the site has had this happen already, though I am unsure of the usernames I could link here. There is definitely a new account today that I think meets this behaviour, I'm going to keep my eye on them and see how it plays out.

Most of this is an old debate anyway:
