In context it's a very sad song. Warren Zevon died of cancer two weeks after the album with that song on it came out, and he wrote it as a goodbye. If you want to listen to more of him, look up the album Excitable Boy. It's a classic.

Oh..Sorry to hear that..well, there are people who make others smile even when they are in deep grief...and this song is the one which deserves to be kept in the heart!
