Sort of related. I'm finishing college so that I can maybe learn the research and presentation skills necessary to make clear why I think a program of national community service--something akin to the 1-year AmeriCorps experience I had in 2014 and geek out about to anyone who will listen--could go a long way in helping to, among much else, restore the shared sense of community that everyone agrees has suffered. I want to help develop this mandate as a piece of public policy. And while I'm dreaming, maybe throw in reduced or eliminated tuition to public universities while we're at it. I have no idea where to even start so this is a bit of a blind shot, but you gotta start somewhere.

Edit: By the way. I almost know for a fact that I won't really one day testify in a congressional subcommittee about the importance of fostering public service to make this happen. It's not that simple. This is purely the first steps into the total fog of my nascent life. I can see how my plan will change as it meets reality. It's just probably a better place to start for me than any other.
