Note to self: Deregulation is a free pass to screw over customers because, hey, free market, right?
I'm not sure it's fair to make such a sweeping claim about innovation. Take for example the patent system. Companies are spending such vast amounts of time and money on litigation, that many would be great features, ideas, or solutions never see the light of day. It's hard to pin the blame on someone towards the end of the pipeline when in reality a major problem lurks at the beginning of the pipe.

You can't build a house on sand! Good point, I'd never thought of this regarding the dissfunctionality of the patent system/process.
