- If we are spiritual and our closest ancestors don't seem to be, at what point in our evolutionary history did this transition occur?
The word ignorance comes to mind. With no offense meant to religious observers, I have long felt that "spirituality" and religion were spawned from ignorance. Why else would so many stories, tales, myths, or whatever-you-want-to-call-them exist about sun gods, or moon gods, or harvest gods, etc. But it isn't ignorance alone. At some point in our evolution, we became aware of our own ignorance and created easy to digest explanations that quickly became legend and law.
