As a OS software developer for third party manufacturers, this seems stupid. Competing with your own business.
I'm not sure. MS also seems to be convinced by Apple that you might be better off building the whole package. Honestly, I don't know if I agree or not, but Apple's incredible success must be a strong counterpoint to any boardroom argument to the contrary.
I do know one thing, I simply won't tolerate manufacturer bloatware on a mobile device. Google might have come to the conclusion that the advantage of third parties is outweighed by the difficulty of maintaining a consistent user experience. In the eyes of a consumer, one crappy Android device is a stain on all Android devices.

True. Now that Google has bought Motorola they will have the capacity to build their own devices. My questions is what wil the future look like for device manufactures? Will they all develop their own OS and software or look to simple universal OS?

I don't know. My guess would be that we are going to end up with Coke or Pepsi, and that's going to be Android or iOS. Palm and Rim are pretty good evidence that you are either on or you are way off. I bet that Surface will struggle and then die.
MS should have been way ahead of this curve, but the cash cow of enterprise made them lazy, I think.
