Once upon a time, Jules Verne wrote 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and From The Earth To The Moon. Both are regarded as being way ahead of their time and have since moved from science fiction to science fact. I guess we can only imagine what some must have thought regarding the possibility of any of those things he detailed in his books ever happening.
So here we are in the 21st century and yes, things aren't as good as they could be...and yet, there are still amazing things happening, that are taking science fiction into the realm of science fact.
I present STARSHOT, and here's a summation of what it is:
That is insane. I'm kinda upset by the whole thing really. It's like right now, we're living between two golden ages of exploration. Before the 20th century we had circumnavigation of the planet, and plumbing the depths of the oceans, and climbing mountains, and travelling the planet's extremities. All we've had in the last two centuries is space exploration and it's in its nascent stages. If you're alive now (2016) and reading this, chances are you're not gonna get to see what Starshot finds, or see other planets or other galaxies in person (unless something drastic happens and ET/Predator/Xenomorphs are actually real).
Anyway, just thought I'd leave this here as a way for those who are interested to appreciate what leaps we've made and how far we still have to go - and it's a great story for a dinner party too.
