Huh. I don't know if what you're doing is entirely original, I'm not an art critic and I've seen similar things before. However, I really like the results. You should do a few more.

Also, have you tried Gimp? It doesn't have all the tools of photoshop, but you can still do some fun things with it.

I tried GIMP a while back when I moved to Linux, but I really didn't care much for it. The interface felt weird and I couldn't really comprehend it, so I prefer PS.

I've never worked with full blown photoshop, but GIMP has some of the same basic tools as elements. You're right though, there's a bit of a learning curve with the interface, especially with the whole multiple window setup.
