A shame, but not surprising. Who would want to be a target for that much sexist and racist vitriol?

Edit: I didn't realize this would bring out the disgruntled redditors :(

Sexism and racism are just an excuse. She pissed off the community with her stupid policies and she paid the price.

This really sounds like a justification for rape and death threats. I don't blame people for disagreeing with her policies. I do blame them for making such threats, or justifying these threats.

This is the internet. Where you can get death threats for simply having the wrong opinion. It doesn't mean shit. Hundreds of thousand of people are rightly mad at her for trying to ruin their website, and playing the victim won't work.

"trying to ruin their website" is really imposing an agency here that I don't think existed. I think she tried to run it with her ideals in mind. And you can't just justify your statement by saying it doesn't mean anything. Saying she "paid the price" implies that this is somehow an agreeable circumstance, when it's definitely not.

The community didn't agree with her "ideals". That's the problem, not the fact that she's an Asian female. Who cares about that?

Threats made on the internet are usually meaningless, and trying to make it seem like a few mean words were what caused her to step down is extremely intellectually dishonest on the part of the journalists.

Not to mention the rape and violence comments. At that point it was really the only good option for herself and the company. I agree with this comment she made from the article:

The good has been off-the-wall inspiring, and the ugly made me doubt humanity.

The ugly is why I ended up at Hubski.

The death and rape threats are just... weird. Like, you think someone should be raped or murdered, because she messed with a website you like?

The disgruntled redditors will find a way to preach the Pao hate as long as the earth continues to orbit the sun.

On-topic:

Definitely agree. I'm amazed she was willing to withstand all the horrible things done on her very own website against her from day one.

Oh, please, this was about way more than sexism and racism on her part. She's not a victim, and even if the terrible decisions made by Reddit were not done by her hand alone or even at all, she knew what she was getting into stepping up as CEO of a company. Not to mention, many of her comments and subsequent actions were pure hypocrisy versus what Reddit championed back before rampant censorship and silencing became par for the course.

No one deserves to be attacked and threatened online, but that's just par for the course with literally any public figure. Let's not make her out to be some victim of angry racist misogynists when it's clearly obvious it's about more than that.
