Klout.com has over 300,000 followers on twitter, over 200,000 likes on facebook, and almost 1M active users per month. Their users (fans, actually) have evolved into a community of passionate advocates who talk about Klout, recommend it to their friends, and help create a growth engine at no cost. And it didn’t happen organically.
Megan Berry is the chief engineer and former community manager behind Klout’s fervent community. She built a social media strategy based on core principles and values, and used a “lean startup” approach to community building to try different social campaigns, measure results, and iterate. It wasn’t an overnight success - it took a lot of hardwork - but Megan developed a process that eventually made community the startup’s number one growth engine.
