For many years I have been following the developments of fuel cell and battery technology to see who would win.

To me, batteries clearly won.

I don't see the point in these manufactures investing in fuel cell infrastructure.

Japan tends to do their own thing from time to time. I'm sure that they have their reasons for supporting hydrogen fuel cell technology, even if it's something as lame as business politics. They're also big enough companies that I don't think it will bring them to ruin to see where this takes them and that's especially true if they're willing to work together to share the burden.

Besides, who says you can only have one option? Look at I.C.E. engines. You have regular gas and diesel as the two mainstays, but there's also E85 and LNG/Propane engines as well. I say, the more the merrier.
