I heard about a bunch of reddit alternatives including this one. I'm not making a break from reddit, but I've always enjoyed discussion based threads. This place seems like a cool place to try. It reminds me a lot of r/truereddit.

Hubski is often referred to as the "third place" of the Web. Often, redditors continuing using reddit and also use hubski. They aren't mutually exclusive. For this same reason, a lot of times you won't find that viral article or video on Hubski because it's featured heavily on Facebook and reddit and random forums and wherever else. Anyways, welcome!
