This isn't really anything revelational. By the very nature of what a society is, both folkways and mores, we have to learn to work within the confines of social standards as well as to how to navigate outside of them without being ostracized. Every last thing this author is railing against helps people to learn just that. Everyone can be a rebel in their own individual way. We can all rock the boat in little ways here and there and it'll still keep floating along.
