So the missus and I (both mid-40s) are off to Nashville for a week in July. We wanted to pick the hottest time of the year on purpose. We are looking for some fun "local tourist" ideas for our weekend there. Specifically, great live music bars, great beer bars, BBQ recommendations, scenic drives, etc.
We have no real agenda in place, but want to get a feel for the area. Long term we are considering a permanent move there, so we want to try to avoid the real out-of-town tourist traps when possible.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
As someone who had lived in Nashville all my life I would recommend just taking a day and exploring downtown. Pretty much every bar has live music and there are BBQ places everywhere (I work at one). If you want to get out of the city you could head down to Franklin which is like 25 minutes south of town and walk around there. Or you could head out to Hermitage in east Nashville. There aren't many 'Tourist Traps' here in Nashville but I can always tell a tourist because they always are wearing cowboy hats and boots. If you have anymore questions go ahead and ask, though Im still unsure how this site works. I hope I will be notified if you comment. Have fun
Thanks for the reply. Good to know and I imagine we will stumble into some good times despite our best efforts. Franklin is on our list to be sure. Now, on to the important things, BBQ! Where do you like? Where do you recommend? We do not get good Q in Southern California so I am looking forward to trying something legitimate.
Yeah sure. Ummm well I know Jack's BBQ is downtown and has some good stuff. I work at a chain called Whitts that has fairly decent pork. Being from Southern California I'm pretty sure most places are going to be good to you. Another would be Corkys which is south of town. Do you know what side of town you will be staying at?
Thanks again for the great info, Truman. We will be up by the airport but will be mobile. I think you have certainly given us enough to start with. Have a great weekend!
