It kind of runs counter to "common sense" morality that the case would be thrown out because the victims are aliens. It's the law, but it doesn't sit right in the stomach to the average man, or at least to me, because something wrong has still been done. And wrongs have to be righted. But in the eyes of the law it doesn't matter because it's not US matter.

I agree with you, but historically it makes sense. Up till after WW2, international law never allowed interference in another country's "internal affairs." It was considered an invasion of sovereignty. With the advent of international human rights, this is changing, but slowly. In the early 1900s, this was the way it was even between States within the US. I'm happy its changing but there are legitimate fears of overstepping.
