That's some of the best artwork I've seen from Tolkien. He was so meticulous and his style was a bit odd, so I don't normally think of him as an "artist" but rather a "concept-drawer." This is precisely-drawn, but a bit more playful. It's almost Wodehousian. Works a lot better. Damn. Dude's just about my favorite human being ever. Creativity leaked out no matter what he did.
