You see more old metalheads and hippies than old punks, and until 2010 or so goth was getting greyer and greyer. I don't think there's much to generalize from there, but it does seem like genres hold people's interests as they get older to different degrees. Indie rock has always been boring live, I think the boring shows they complain about are just an effect of indie becoming the One True Scene. You see more theatrics from bands who don't need/want/have a snowball's chance of getting any attention from Pitchfork.
