David Wise is a cool cat.
I was just thinking about posting a song from this game last night. I'm a huge game music dork. One thing I really, really like about the new DK games is how you can just see how much fun everyone at Retro was having during development. Each level does something unique and there is always so, so much going on in the background. Everything is alive and reacting to what you do (even the design of the level itself in many cases!) It's so charming and creative and I love it a lot. The mine cart levels are some of my favorites for demonstrating this! They are like extremely decorated roller coaster rides. Since they're on a set track, audio cues can be tailored to what will happen to the player at that moment which makes the whole experience even more vibrant. One of the first levels I ever saw when the game was announced was "High Tide Ride", and ever since then I knew the game was going to be something special. Just watch how interactive everything is! The sharks and their goofy grins when they think they will be able to bite you, the music changes with the camera angles and environments, the tracks and temple stones are pushed and pulled away as soon as you come up to them, the attention to detail is just remarkable! I have a lot of feelings about Retro Studios' DK.
Edit: also, the level where the music you posted comes from has everything in the level dancing and singing along! It is fantastic and I smile every time I see it.
