In Cincinnati, Fort Washington Way - where I-71 and I-75 merge together used to be above grade and divided the city from the river with a tangled mess of highway, bridge, and on ramps. Right around 2000, construction was completed to put the whole highway below grade. This change really helped integrate the city and the riverfront together. There's been significant investment now in developing the riverfront which will really help make the city more vibrant.
Once while driving to Boston from Detroit (I cut through Canada), I got stuck in Buffalo traffic for an insanely long amount of time. I think there was construction. It was cold and gray, and I was very tired. I remember Cher's Do You Believe in Life after Love? playing on the radio.
