I concur, it takes my computer maybe three seconds or more to load the thread, when it should have only taken a couple of milliseconds. Embedded videos should be opt-in, I don't mind clicking a link.

It can be addressed. One solution that Google+ employs is loading a thumbnail, and then clicking on the thumbnail loads the video. Perhaps we will do that. In the meantime, I added an option to toggle off video embeds. It's in your settings. FYI mhr Unfortunately, the solution uses javascript, and I'm not really satisfied with that.
