I like his approach -- he is quite brilliant -- and were it that I subscribed to the 'side-effected and locally emerging consciousness' theory of minds aka The Great Null and Void, I would think he is dead on in both cases.

Those videos are excellent! And thank you for the introduction. I went straight to Wikipedia, and can say I am embarrassed I hadn't known of Zizek. This world is too damn big. Not enough time. Going to spend some with Zizek now.

This post makes me wish Hubski had a messaging system. I'd love to pass this along to steve, maker of the #orangechair movies (http://hubski.com/tag?id=orangechair) Hubski messaging goes on the maybe list.

BTW, does the 'biogenetic revolution' include our subjugation by AI?

Yes, this guy has a wicked sense of humor. But he is dead serious. We're geeks so we get the news stale, but no doubt he was a darling of lit-crit and/or the avant garde a few moons before I ever heard of him.

I love the humor. On the topic, perusing Zizek's Wikipedia article, I laughed when I read this: While criticizing Zizek's style in general, David Bordwell criticizes his humor as an "academic humor" and in Bordwell's words academic humor is to humor what "military intelligence is to intelligence."

I thought: "Well that's a witty statement. ...WAIT A MINUTE!!!"
