Question: all of my found 'best comments' are actually posts, but they differentiate (in my opinion) from the stuff in the 'best post' category in that they're self-generated, not links. So for 'best comment' I would nominate something like this but it's a post, technically. Thoughts?

I think that works as a comment or a post. You're right that it feels more like a comment because it's text based. IMO, do as you please since there aren't really 'rules.' :P
