Hubski started with a modified HN code base, though you'd never be able to guess looking at the two sites side by side today, mk has transformed the UI so radically that there are very few visual cues left. On a conceptual level though, I totally take you point, though I think the Hubsi and HN are still closer relatives conceptually as well...thoughtful discussion and all that :)
