I wrote a pre-emptive piece last week for concerns similar to the ones outlined quite well by C4SS.

In short, I believe people should read the actual data and try their best to put facts ahead of beliefs. This is going to be too much to ask from a worrying number of people. That is why I emphasized in my post that whether you "believe" in anthropogenic climate change or not, it doesn't change the fact that we need a new energy economy now. This is because a) fossil fuels are a finite resource, b) there are not enough to provide energy abundance for the whole world, and c) our current system consumes too much energy at the expense of the biosphere (<--- this was explained in detail in my article).

Few points I'd like to comment on from the above thoughts from C4SS:

put down the book Bill McKibben or Sean Hannity

I understand your point, but it's not fair to put McKibben and Hannity in the same category.

to work around hierarchy and build a new society free of institutional supremacy.

Yes, I agree with this. The power of collectives of individuals via the Internet will be the fundamental cause for changing the system - not any political institutions.

Climate change presents a great challenge to civilization. Where there is labor to be done, we will do it. Expect us.

Great philosophy/perspective. I 100% believe in our ability to change the current energy economy. Our first major global challenge will lead to the creation of our first real global civilization.
