theZproject  ·  4139 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What is your opinion on this list of believes ?

My opinion is that Creationism is a waste of time, even 8 minutes to watch the same old crap get paraded around.

theZproject  ·  4140 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What is your favorite album?

Tool - Aenima Pearl Jam - Ten Alice in Chains - MTV Unplugged Nirvana - Nevermind Puscifer - C is for....

There's really not a lot of albums I'll listen through from start to finish with any regularity but those 5 are the most likely to get a full listen through. And I have then all on vinyl which should count for something I think :)

theZproject  ·  4142 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: An unintended consequence of the "unshared" page.

Perhaps mk could set up a system where some number of comments will pull a post off of Unshared without it actually being shared?

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Reversing Type 2 Diabetes and Heart Disease With a Vegan Diet

I think a vegan diet might kill me faster than heart disease, I don't think I could handle that level of restricted eating.

9gag perhaps?

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: People Who Study Most, Live Longer

I study like crazy, I have to if I want to pass physics classes where the average age is 8+ years younger than I am. I wonder if all that cramming counteracts all the cigarettes I smoke? Ahhhh wishful thinking ... LOL

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Ask Hubski: Who is the most underrated guitar player? Who is the most overrated?

I totally agree, I'm a lifelong (nearly) Nirvana fan and Kurt wouldn't even make my top 20 guitarists. That was certainly not what set him, or Nirvana, apart.

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Policy on Self-Promotion?

I can only speak from very limited experience but thenewgreen was quite supportive when I posted a link to my soundcloud profile to share my music with the user base. I don't make any kind of monetary gain from that type of self promotion though. (unless one of you decides to hire me for a show or something I guess...)

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: A question about Hubski design

I think the links under Submit a Post and above the search bar are just clutter and in terms of navigation hierarchy are far too prominent. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the site or its usefulness, but since you asked that has been bugging me just a tiny bit.

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: A question about Hubski design

In my opinion if you do end up auto-hiding comments I would base it on hiding comments or subthreads that, after some period of time, don't have any points. So like, if I look at a post that's a week old the site auto-hides any comments that haven't gained any attention yet.

Just an errant thought :)

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: A question about Hubski design

Isn't this feature somewhat redundant? It doesn't seem to serve any purpose that tagging doesn't already serve, and tags seem to do it as well or better.

When looking at this thread the only "similar posts" I'm shown are other #askhubski posts, none of which have to do with the design or features of the site.

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The best/most anticipated PC games of 2013

Plants vs Zombies 2? Hell yes.

Bioshock Infinite? About time ... I've had this game on pre-order for about a year already.

Elder Scrolls Online would be on my list if I hadn't sworn off MMO's (I wasted too many years on WoW).

And if you're into indie space games check out my FIL's game on Greenlight, ZIGFRAK

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Netbooks will no longer be made in 2013

Does this mean Apple is going to stop making the Macbook Air? Or is that too expensive to be a netbook?

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Mom, what was handwriting? - - Boston.com

You're not crazy. I always thought "handwriting" was writing by hand, and that cursive was a specific kind of handwriting (as in not printing).

theZproject  ·  4143 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hobby Lobby Will Defy Contraception Mandate, Others May Follow

You may not dictate your beliefs on to your employees, and that is exactly what they want to do here. It's not fair and it's not right.

This is pretty much the core of the issue right here I think. These companies think that the corporation or upper management have the right to use their position to trump their employees' decision making abilities. Just because the guy who runs the business is a hardcore fundamentalist doesn't mean that his employees are, or have any obligation to live their lives as such. You run a business, you provide healthcare, and you keep out of your employees private decisions. Just because you think contraception is a sin doesn't mean your employees lose the right to decide how to use the healthcare that they've earned.

theZproject  ·  4144 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What are YOU looking forward to this year?

Just came across this article and thought I'd add Finding an Alien Earth to the list.

theZproject  ·  4144 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What are some amazing pieces of music from unexpected sources?

This is awesome. I've been listening to BT for a long time, and this was quite unexpected for me.

theZproject  ·  4144 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Do physicists believe in God?

The more I come back to this thread and poke around the harder it is for me to avoid what I think is a very obvious question.

Who cares if physicists believe in God?

And more importantly, why would you care?

theZproject  ·  4144 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Do physicists believe in God?

You've compared a heliocentric orbital diagram and a geocentric orbital diagram and proclaimed neither of them to be "technically wrong". This is absurd, the geocentric view of the solar system is absolutely wrong and is not even a useful approximation. It was, at one time, a useful and somewhat convincing approximation but the real answer is much simpler, far more accurate, and easier to work with. There is overwhelming evidence that this is the case. If we were having this discussion before the launch of the first interplanetary exploration missions there would STILL be overwhelming and conclusive evidence but in the age of space exploration it is incontrovertible.

There's no blind faith required here, there is real evidence.

theZproject  ·  4144 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What are YOU looking forward to this year?

Any particular adventures you have in mind?

theZproject  ·  4144 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: White House, Senate leaders reach deal on fiscal cliff

I guess it's good to know that congress can occasionally perform the most basic functions of their job...

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What phrases do we often say that have a deeper meaning? (All languages)

When I hear someone say "Evolution is just a theory" it translates to "Despite not having a grasp of the most basic scientific methodology or vocabulary I am going to dismiss the work of thousands of scientists who have, over the course of a century, experimentally verified the theory with an unprecedented amount of emperical evidence."

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The State of Hubski: 2012

This is pretty much what I was gonna say.

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Do physicists believe in God?

Don't discredit the possibility that the earth and sun revolve around something else, because they do. Our solar system orbits the super massive black hole in the center of our galaxy. There's just nothing spiritual going on there. ;)

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Do physicists believe in God?

Actually I don't think you have an argument at all, merely a broad sweeping generalization that is obviously false. And I think that claiming knowledge of me by my "kind" is the real misconception here.

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who are some actors/actresses you just can't watch?

Yeah I jumped off that bandwagon well before Jack & Jill

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: The Hubski Band: What musical instrument do you play?

I'm not a musician really, but I've been DJ'ing and doing audio engineering work for a long time. I prefer the technical side, and leave the creative stuff to more talented folks.

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who are some actors/actresses you just can't watch?

But ... Bill & Ted !

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Who are some actors/actresses you just can't watch?

At one point in my life I really enjoyed Adam Sandler, but that was a long time and many questionable movies ago. Kind of sad I guess, but his career went to shit and I grew up.

theZproject  ·  4145 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What are some amazing pieces of music from unexpected sources?

I'm also on a Mac running Chrome, probably a bad extension or something on my end. I've seen Otomata before it makes some really interesting noise (I can't bring myself to describe anything I've done with it as music).
