The collapse of the Soviet Union didn't immediately result in a rise in post-Soviet Socialism. I'm sure for a while people were trying to figure out and debate what exactly what wrong, and how to correct that. Twenty years later though, is Russia really much better off? I took Russian Languange courses for a year and both of my Professors said they preferred living in Soviet times as opposed to post-Soviet times (even under Putin). Anyway, I think it is a good thing for socialism and communism to have had the Soviet Union collapse, as it allows for a progression of ideas and more forward-thinking.
