The article doesn't understand Monoprice's economics. Yeah, they make cables. No, they are not bad cables. Yes, "not bad cables" is all you need when working in the digital domain. However Monoprice is branching out into aspects where factors such as "where the bottons go" and "how well it's put together" and "what does it sound like" suddenly matter, and their build quility is pure shit. Monoprice slaps their brand on cheap Chinese shit. It's not innovative. It's Coby. It's GPX. It's every other low-rent lo-fi brand that has come and gone since Sparkomatic went overseas. The difference is that Monoprice has never had to have a retail chain, so they're that much cheaper. With cable? Sure, keep buying cable. It's always been that cheap. Buy a new piece of gear, get new cable, and you know it didn't cost the manufacturer much. I have to keep my spare cables separated by function or they breed. When we moved from Seattle to LA I purged over 55 lbs. of miscellaneous cable... and I still have five bins' full. ...and that doesn't include the three drawers that are filled with cable I actually paid for.
