My Dad has always been very respectful of authority. After being a hellion in his younger years, he turned around and has been extremely deferential and supportive of authority figures.

Now, as his mental abilities fade, that has become a blind dedication to whoever is in power.

He had to stop watching the news because it was so disrespectful to the President... cough cough ...

All but two of his friends have passed away, and one of them is his (deceased) sister's husband... who is a retired truck driver in Alabama... and is exactly the person you automatically thought of when you read those words. He spends 22 hours a day reading right wing loony media and email lists, and spamming everyone he knows with reams and reams of bullshit memes and stories that are stunningly dumb and outlandish.

My dad an I talked about this a couple years ago, and I wanted him to block this guy's emails. There was nothing of value in there.

But my Dad is duty-bound by family ties to receive and read this constant stream of bullshit.

Which has only one effect: desensitization. When the water you are swimming in is so polluted with garbage, you have a hard time distinguishing it all from each other.

Dad no longer has the short-term memory to hold new opinions, but he has said that he is relieved Biden won.... but also would leave the room if anyone said a bad word about Trump.

Gah. It is so hard to see such a nice guy played by the devious fuckwits and Mother Nature's shittiest type of mental decline....
