Damn yeah it is. I went through Basic Combat Training the summer of 1999, and I still have vivid (not bad) memories of it. For me, it was the first time doing something on my own and succeeding at it. Yeah, it was mentally and physically tough, but it's a good kind of tough. I have no idea how it compares to cadet training, but I imagine the basics are universal. I'm certain I could still strip an M-16 with my eyes closed. And if I was careful, put it back together with my eyes closed. They never drilled us on that, but we spent a lot of time cleaning them. So now I'm poking around the aerial photography of Fort Jackson. It's been a long time. All the best.
