Your grandfather's patents look very much like the predecessor to Keihin slide-valve carburetors, which still power half the motorcycles on the road. Here's how ubiquitous they are: when I needed parts for my Kawasaki KLR-650 carb, I'd buy them from the Harley dealer because they had less markup. Same carb, a Keihin 38.
