Rifkin's a one-dimensional asshat. I read some of his book on this subject because it was tangentially related to an essay I'm working on. He has one argument (zero marginal cost 'society' is da best evar), unfolds it slowly using popsci filler and promises the world. His chapter on IoT just reiterates the beliefs of companies like Cisco and IBM that align with his argument. It's the worst kind of popsci.
