Eliminating cash altogether would devestate the enourmous informal economy. Goverments hate it because It's not taxed and a significant portion is criminal but it also employs a large proportion of the poor and people with limited capabilities. The informal economy indirectly contributes hugely to GDP and well being. In other cases it allows for the exploitation of the underclasses.
