Sad story indeed.
For me, nothing material comes to mind. As far as things I've regretfully given up, I once had a girlfriend whom I was mad about. She broke my heart, but came crawling back a few months later. I let my pride instead of my conscience do the talking and told her to go fuck herself, and I've hated myself for it ever since. Definitely not a tragic as losing your favorite guitar and rig, but still, it was a lesson learned about holding onto that which you care about.
