I love Willie's song with this piece on so many levels.

So many of the lyrics are hilarious/interesting/enjoyable set against the backdrop of this painting:

Miracles appear In the strangest of places Fancy meeting you here
Perfect opening line

Your presence is welcome With me and my friend here

Jesus's main thesis and message

    Yesterday's wine I'm yesterday's wine
(Christian transubstantiation literally holds that the wine in your cup is the blood of Jesus)

Beyond all that, it's funny to re-imagine Jesus and his apostles as just a gathering of friends at the pub, which actually humanizes them and is a completely realistic portrayal provided any of them ever actually existed. Also, Willie Nelson himself as a character has many similarities to Jesus the character both in the way he physically looks, along with his general attitude and outlook.

Lastly, the concept album Yesterday's Wine is steeped in religion if you listen to the actual songs. The theme of the 'imperfect man' communicating with God is central.

Plus it's just one of my favorite songs by Willie who is, inarguably, The Man.

Edit: Oh yeah, Jesus's first miracle was turning water into wine. How did I not remember that before posting?
