Leonard died just a day or two after the last election. I remember posting on Twitter, back when I used to use Twitter, a simple line of his that summed up how is was feeling: Everybody got this broken feeling like their father or their dog just died. My brother replied like an hour later, "You killed Leonard," and I didn't understand what he meant for a minute. Really, he has a lyric for every way you feel. I don't think there's ever been a songwriter so in touch with not just his own, but everybody's inner dialogue. I am an unabashed Cohen fanboy, if you can't tell. I had the pleasure of seeing him twice, and although he was old at the time, he played for 3+ hours each show (honestly don't remember if there was a sweet break, but I don't think there was), dancing and running around the stage the whole show. So much energy, so much respect for his audience. Here's to hoping I won't be feeling again like my dog just died next week!
