    There’s life in here

    Scrambling to be free

Today, observing kids not in school, thinking how happy and free they looked.

Perhaps we should have another go at deschooling society. Then I thought, with so many umemployed right now, the jobs will all go to the men and childcare will go back to the women, at home, barefoot and homeschooling... and then I thought that maybe now the men would stay home and women would be the ones working...

We may rebuild we may remain but

    It won’t be the same

I know a couple of people working in kindergartens and primary schools, and they were bombarded by career-obsessed parents annoyed with taking care of their kids (' education) and school not doing enough to keep them out of their hair long before covid started. The kinds of parents who wouldn't care if their kid is a motionless fatass that only sweats during PE every now and then. For those children, boring or not, school can be the closest they get to respite. Then you have children of abusive parents who fear coming back home. Then you have the poor for whom school might be the source of hot meals.

There's more to it than just education, which, despite my obvious bent and bias, no ever knows when they'll need or for what. I was bored stiff learning history or Latin, but they prove to be helpful at oddest of circumstances (EDIT: which is the last thing I expected while I was at school myself).
