Did you not get a proper answer last time as far as guns = bombs?

'cuz say the word, squire. I will close that can of worms for you.

My point was not then, and is still not 'Guns = bombs.'

My point is that the problem, as I see it, is not any specific method of inflicting violence upon others. The problem is 'What motivates someone to commit a violent/ mass violent attack?' or 'What circumstances lead to the creation of an individual with violence tendencies/desires?'

Again, from where I sit, as I see this issue, unless we are addressing root causes, and trying to act preventatively against the causes, not the methods, we are not actually solving the problem. We are playing whack-a-mole.

Edit* to expand on your post.

I am purely, 100% interested in motive. It would take some convincing to make me consider 'means' and 'opportunity' as equally, or even near as important as motive. Because if you lack motive, means and opportunity are irrelevant.

And there you are mistaken. "Specific method" is not an aspect that can be divorced from motivation.

The reported difference in suicide rates for males and females is partially a result of the methods used by each gender. Although females attempt suicide at a higher rate, they are more likely to use methods that are less immediately lethal. Males frequently complete suicide via high mortality actions such as hanging, carbon-monoxide poisoning, and firearms. This is in contrast to females, who tend to rely on drug overdosing. While overdosing can be deadly, it is less immediate and therefore more likely to be caught before death occurs. In Europe, where the gender discrepancy is the greatest, a study found that the most frequent method of suicide among both genders was hanging; however, the use of hanging was significantly higher in males (54.3%) than in females (35.6%). The same study found that the second most common methods were firearms (9.7%) for men and poisoning by drugs (24.7%) for women.

Richard Speck managed to rape, torture and murder eight nurses in a sorority with a knife. Took him all night. Elliott Roger, on the other hand, killed his three roommates, cleaned up his apartment, went to Starbuck's, drove to a sorority, knocked on the door and nobody answered. He then proceeded drive around shooting people and running people over. Cops responded within eight minutes and within ten he was dead.

There will always be Richard Specks. There will always be crazy, dedicated psychopaths who wish to kill people. However, the easier it is to kill lots of people, the lower the threshold for mass murder. Elliot Rodger wasn't just a psychopath, he was a pussy. He was fully willing to shoot people in the face and run them over with his car, but he didn't have the stones to get into a fuckin' sorority house. If you perform even a basic analysis of the socialization of mass murderers, you find a long list of entitled white pussies that couldn't sack up.

- Kip Kinkel. Pussy who couldn't get a date, cried the whole time, still shot four people.

- Klebold and Harris - Pussies who couldn't get dates, failed to blow anything up, wandered around shooting people indiscriminately.

- Sueng-hi Cho - pussy who couldn't get a date, took selfies with his arsenal, wandered around shooting people indiscriminately.

Compare and contrast - Ted Kaczynski worked on his damn bombs for months. Tzokar Tsarnaev visited a legit Chechen training camp. I mean, look at this dreamy mutherfucker:

The basic problem is "go into a school and shoot the shit out of everybody" is the low-hanging fruit of mass murder. It is the method of choice of losers. Our problem is fundamentally that we are propagating losers in these here United States at a disturbing rate while at the same time, creating a mirror culture where they aren't losers. That mirror culture? It doesn't reward bombings. It doesn't reward car kills. It doesn't reward gas attacks.

It rewards shootings.

Next time you engage in a gun control debate, recognize that you are playing one side of an argument that isn't about tools, it's about self-image. Right now? Right now we have a 42 billion dollar industry that is effectively selling us the Marlboro Man all over again. They are selling the glamour of a specific method of exercising one's will over another. Were that method to be deglamorized its practitioners would not switch to any other method. There is no other method that rewards pussies for being pusillanimous.

Elliott Rodger couldn't get into the damn sorority.
