I have no idea how my 401k is performing. I don't look. It's a super long term investment and to pay attention to it's activity in the short term would be overly emotional for no reason. We do know where our investments are though, probably because we aren't wealthy. At some point it would likely become advantageous to pay someone to manage our funds but we're not there. Right now my wife handles it and does a great job. She rules.

I agree that Mitt likely has no idea about this and isn't doing anything that most of his opponents wouldn't do too.

If you visit any of the left leaning sites right now, they're all hammering away at this topic as well as the fact that the Olympic Teams under his tenure had their uniforms made over seas. -As if he was personally on the team that sourced vendors for their uniforms. It's silly.

Romney quote from the McCain dossier "I'm basicaly in the investor's hall of fame." I think that if he wasn't running for president he would be paying pretty close to his investments. Running for president a few times is in itself a pretty decent investment if you stand any chance at all, can probably earn a few board seats and what not.

Mitt has chosen to pay the opportunity cost of being hands off with his money for a bit while he gambles on a bigger pay off. The dollars may not matter all that much, but there will be plenty of payoff from this campaign in name recognition, a place in history and probably many other things. He might actually have a pretty good idea where his money is going, but needs to keep a nice veneer of plausible deniability.
