Fuck! I've never seen the bioluminescence in the waves like that! I want to though. My family's boat has a head that uses water from the ocean. So at night if there is bioluminescence, it'll light up when you pump it. It was really cool when I was a kid, but hadn't really taken too much note of it since then. A couple years back, I had a friend with me on the boat. He takes a piss or whatever, pumps the head. Nothing for about 20 seconds. I hear more pumping. At this point I'm half asleep and I'm don't want to embarrass him - I figured he clogged it up and he'll either work it out or he won't and we'll deal with it later. After a few more rounds of a couple pumps, pause, a little half pump, pause, furiously pumping, pause, I finally yell at him.
He just goes "I swear to god whatever you fed me tonight made my piss light up!" Another comment re: bioluminescence: https://hubski.com/pub?id=106399
I remember seeing bioluminescence like that only one time in my life off a beach near San Diego, CA. It was just magnificent. The phenomenon only happened once in my 5 years there. If I recall correctly, it was right after a big rain, so the runoff had pumped a pile of nutrients into the ocean to fuel the explosion of the phytoplankton.
