A guy I know has a sister that lives in the middle of nowhere Montana up a 5 mile road and then an hour hike (or 4 wheeler) trip to their cabin. They have no running water and the only electricity is from a generator. When the winter comes, they are essentially snowed in all season with the supplies they've accumulated. In short, they are completely off the grid. I asked him how she and her husband earn a living and he said that she's a web designer. -True story. Somehow she has internet access and runs enough power through their generator.
