They state that 70% of people say that they would be okay with "smart toilets" so long as they lead to lower healthcare costs. I'm curious if anyone here would have a problem with "smart toilets" and if so, why?“As you may have worked out, Quantified Toilets is indeed a fake company and all data reported were equally fake. It was a thought experiment at CHI 2014, designed to engender thought and discussion regarding the issues of surveillance, data, and privacy.”
Pretty clever.
I would. Hell, I get uncomfortable when a Facebook app requests access to my timeline! It just feels like too much information, collected too often. Also, would there be realistic value to collecting everyone's pee data? We might catch some things early, but putting the system in place could be very expensive, and there's the potential for false positives and increased paranoia about our health (imagine Web MD every time you went to the can).
I think the "realistic value" is that pee can't "lie." When you take a census, or a poll people tell you there version of the truth they think you want to hear. For example, if the question is "do you use drugs?" -With a urine sample the answer is more definitive than relying on someones honesty. That said, I wouldn't want people collecting that type of information without my consent.
