Just feeling a little antipodean ;-)
I like the summer sounds of Six60 : Don't Forget Your Roots
What other albums do you feel fit the summer?
It depends on if it's the beginning or the end of summer. If it's the beginning of summer then I will be forever in love with older music in the stylings of Franki Valli & the 4 Seasons, The Beach Boys, or newer music that has a hazy quality to it. Kurt Vile is exactly what I'm referring to. The end of the summer into fall is when I really enjoy listening to midwest-inspired emo music, such as Into It. Over It., Owen, and one of my personal favorites, The World is a Beautiful Place and I am no Longer Afraid to Die.
Which of those albums are you talking about, Kurt Vile or the World Is? I've plugged both of those quite a bit here. On a side note: I'm really glad that you and other people dig the music I post about here, I know I like a lot of the stuff that people like you, AshShields, and others post in the weekly threads and elsewhere.
I've been getting really into My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. I found them while looking up Sneaker Pimps, I'm really digging the sounds.
NOFX- So Long an Thanks for all the Shoes , mostly. One of my favorite albums and probably NOFX's best. Also, Propagandhi- How to Clean Everything. Just a good, punk album. Propagandhi kind of resents the album, because they think that it holds their worst songwriting. It kind of does, but I still love the album.
You are the yin to my yang, @briandmyers. :3 Random Access Memories has taken my spot for favorite summer album, simply because I associate it with one of the best summers I've ever experienced. After that is Endless Fantasy by Anamanaguchi.
I won't deny your inspirational influence, kind sir or madam!
kleinbl00 mentioned the band Cayucas in a #weeklymusicthread a while back. I've been listening to them a ton and feel like they'd make a hell of a good "summer listen".
I just came to this thread to post this. The perfect summer album. See also: The Drums - Summertime Superhuman Happiness - Hands or The Physical EP
I dig what I heard of Superhuman Happiness. Thanks.
So, so, so many. Too many to get to, in fact, in one season. You know that first day of the year when it's warm enough you can put all the windows down when you're driving to work? Get the sun and the wind at the same time? That's the day, out of all the days, when I have the worst time deciding what music to listen to. And then there's the distinction between hot summer nights and warm summer days, both of which require a different set of albums. And the further distinction between straight up summer albums and summery-feeling road trip albums. I don't even know where to start here. Opening iTunes. EDIT: I started a list, got as far as Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion, became overwhelmed, and retreated. I'll leave it to someone else to expound upon the Beach Boys.
