Why are you so opposed to this? 1) Twitter has become a major cultural phenomenon, understanding how things spread around twitter especially how quickly can help us understand culture. 2) It can be argued that twitter is an example of just studying how information travels along any network. One can then compare it to previous social networks or non-social networks. This might provide insight into how social networks differ and how people communicate. 3) It's really interesting, as show by people who are sharing it here on Hubski.
