There was a 4chan greentext about this very issue that then begat an article previously discussed on Hubski.

Once there are people in your group that are demanding to be called a culture, or organize a code of conduct, you are fucked. The money people have found you; now that thing you like and the people with whom you share this bond with are now nothing but walking wallets.

Want to know why ComicCon now sucks and nobody should bother with it? Hollywood took it over. ComicCon in the 80's was nerds dorks and dweebs getting together to be themselves, and now we got this marketing convention masquerading as something built by fans.
