As far as I can tell, it's not really important which language you chose. If it's your first time, you will learn the trade of programming and how to think about problems and that's what's important. I think it's important to work on a project or something tangible, where you could look back and say 'Yeah, I did this and it's pretty cool' whether it's a calendar or a little game or something you come up with.
