To me, this is the interesting part of the debate - not, 'what will my car decide / be programmed to do?', but 'who will be legally responsible for the consequences of that decision?'

I can't imagine a company attempting to bring an autonomous vehicle to market if there is any chance that they bear all responsibility for potential death and / or injury.

So, if you are the only person in the vehicle, will you still be the legally designated driver even if you're spending the journey browsing on your ipad and at no point were you involved in the driving process?

It's when the lawyers get involved in this that I think it's going to get interesting.
