You said "manufacturing", but just to be a bit clearer, the key is production. For example services aren't exactly manufactured.
Production increases wealth and prosperity because the more goods and services are produced, the more purchasing power each unit of currency has, because it corresponds to a larger slice of the total pool of wealth. Needless to say, the more purchasing power we have, the easier it is for us to get by.
On a related note, it's worth noting that "deflation" basically boils down to an increase in purchasing power, and is therefore a good thing, contrary to what we keep being told by the mainstream media. Go figure.
