My suggestion is that we acknowledge that this is part of the battle that's beginning for the millenial vote. Obama is going on VICE to tell 20-somethings that marijuana legalization should be at the bottom of our list of concerns while pieing Republicans and tooting his horn about economic policies (and pieing some more). He really wants to get our attention, and probably out of genuine concern rather than partisan politics. it's only gonna get worse.
