Not sure if this is the place to post, but a possible idea for a future podcast is science in the United States. Over the past few decades, funding has decreased for basic and applied science research in the United States. What does this mean about the US's place in the world, and more importantly what does it say about our values as a society/culture?

You could possibly talk about the merits of basic science research (ie science research with no currently known applications), and if we, in the current economy, should bother investing in science.
